As its distinct conical shadow stretches across the landscape at sunset, Lassen Peak joins Mt. Shasta as the two southern monarchs of the Cascade Range. These stately volcanoes offer a thoroughly different and beautiful experience from the rest of California. These photos were taken on a climbing and hiking trip to explore the area after years of school in southern California without a trip north.
